VAUTID wear resistance materials – use in waste incineration plants

We provide customers with comprehensive solutions to combat plant wear and extend service lifetimes

V100 wear plate applications – use in chutes

This article describes an application in a manufacturing facility which converts wood into fiber products. These fibers provide the raw material for a wide range of textile and non-woven fabric applications. Examples include synthetic fibers for use in clothing, such as high-stretch sportswear, and non-woven fabric applications in the food industry and the cosmetics industry, such as latex gloves.

Consequently there are a number of different production stages within the business. Recycled materials collected in the customer’s area are graded in sorting facilities. Cotton remnants are separated our for re-use. Residual materials are incinerated in the customer’s waste-to-energy plant, thereby generating electricity. For a number of years now, our VT AUSTRIA factory has been helping companies optimize their waste recycling operations.

Our engineers provide support at all relevant stages throughout the production process. They contribute upfront advice, produce manufacturing drawings for the planned facility, and supply samples. They are involved in testing, plant commissioning and ongoing operations, and advise on extending equipment life and reducing downtime during plant refurbishment. Our colleagues provide comprehensive advice to customers in all business sectors. We delver solutions that are perfectly tailored to individual needs. In this instance, we produce chutes and pipe bends for transporting waste materials into the incineration plant. These are originally manufactured from S355 steel plate, which we reinforced with V100 wear plates. The VAUTID fabrications have to withstand operating temperatures in the region of 300°C. Because flow speeds are low, impact stress is minimal; but abrasion levels are high, as a result of foreign objects contained within the waste (stones, hard substances, glass etc.). By replacing the S355 material with V100, the service life of the equipment was increased many times over. VAUTID fabrications are assembled with screw fasteners so, if any sections are subject to above-average levels of wear, the customer can simply order individual, ready-to-fit replacement modules from VAUTID.

Another example in the use of VAUTID wear plates is blow lines, where operating temperatures of up to 300°C are combined with high flow speeds. In order to combat the high levels of both impact stress and abrasion caused by foreign objects contained within the waste material (stones, hard substances, glass etc.). the interchangeable cast NiHard plates originally fitted were replaced by V100 wear plates. High impact stress levels had led to repeated fractures in the NiHard material.

Installing VAUTID V100 material extended the service life on the equipment. Using V100 fabrications offers a major advantage: if a fabrication is damaged in operation, e.g. plate develops a hole, it is possible to carry out repairs – including weld repairs – from the outside. It is not possible to assess the extent of wear on any component while the plant is running. And swapping out the plate is not always possible, since shutting down the plant involves committing substantial time to switch-off and restart procedures – which in turn means expensive downtime.

Using VAUTID V143 wear plates can bring even greater benefits. These products can extend service life even further, since this material has even higher resistance to impact stress.

Our engineers are constantly working alongside customers to create and implement new solutions. Because we supply the complete system, we support our customers at each and every stage of the process. From advice to commissioning, from production start-up to continuously improving your specific solution – we’re with you all the way.
